The primer
It seems notorious to see even irrefutable that the essential of Niger's domestic and international trade is tribute in a certain way to the economy of Nigeria, a historical partnership.
It was given to me to notice during my study trips in Nigeria and several communes and border regions that the physical mass of the goods and transactional financial flows are not quantifiable. By this fact, any decentralized economic policy will collide has this reality constant of the informal character of border trade in departments, common as washa, malawa,..(zinder), konni, illela (tahoua), dogon doutchi, Gaya(Dosso), dan issa (Tuesday), diffa..etc.
The economic interdependence between Niger and Nigeria is a must-have reality, especially at the level of border trade. However, the informal and unquantified character of these exchanges represents a real challenge for the implementation of effective economic policies. This article offers a innovative approach to formalize and secure these exchanges, focusing on facilitating customs procedures and the implication of local actors
It is therefore paramount to opt for a practice insertion policy internal and international trade formalization new policy. These include the facilitation of registration procedures (guarantee free), securing people and good and above all ensuring the profitability of new procedures to economic operators.
Trade between Niger and Nigeria is primarily characterized by its informal character, making it difficult for any accurate quantification of the flows of goods and capital. This situation is due to several factors, including:
Economic complementarities: Both countries have additional savings, which promotes trade.
Sociocultural factors: Historical and cultural connections between border populations facilitate informal exchange.
To address this situation, it is proposed to set up a simplified, free registration system of flow of goods to border control positions. This system could rely on:
A verbal statement: Economic operators would verbally declare the nature and quantity of goods transported.
A photo shoot: A photo of the merchandise would be taken as evidence of the statement.
The formalization of border trade between Niger and Nigeria represents a major challenge to the economic development of both countries. By setting up a simplified, free registration system, involving local actors, and securing borders, it is possible to transform an informal trade into a formal, structured trade.
Relax
One should not lose sight of the central hypothesis stated in this analysis is to highlight the interconnection of Nigerian and Nigerian economies.
Quantification, by free registration, allowed the importance of this regional reality to be grasped. Thus, when validated, the hypothesis would certainly lead to the refining of existing economic ties.
The target
The goal could be, possibly, building the express routes connecting Nigeria ports to different border cities in Niger. It is possible !
It was given to me to see the state of excellence in road infrastructure of Nigeria. Convincues of the membership of the local legal and customary authorities, the federal government will put some of the means (infrastructure, procedures facilitation, exonerations,...) to ensure the supply of Zinder cities, Tuesday, Gaya and Diffa.
